I have my first rabbit resting in the fridge waiting to be turned into a delicious treat. It was an older rabbits and my families first time trying rabbit. Any suggestions on the best way to prepare it?

Crock pot...definitely. You can put it in there with some onion, garlic, salt, pepper and water to cover. Let it cook on high for 4 hours or low for 8hrs. The meat will fall off the bones practically and it can be used for anything that uses chicken. Mine love "sloppy hoppies", you shred the cooked meat, add barbeque sauce and serve on a hamburger bun.

OAF, that sounds SO good.. Is it "too much" for a younger rabbit or does it work well for them too?

I wonder, if the meat was ground, if it would make for a decent bunny burger? xD

Nope, you just cook it a shorter time...2-3 hrs on high, 4 hrs on low.

__________ Fri Feb 01, 2013 12:45 pm __________

It is very low fat so you have to add something to make it stick together...

You can use the edible organs in the rabbit for that if you don't have other fatty meat to add.

I made this recipe with an older doe and it was tender and delicious rabbit-in-white-wine-cream-sauce-t11814.html It was no tougher than the young rabbits I've cooked, though it had a little more flavor which was very pleasant.

I made the above recipe with champagne, and it was delicious. I had Hubs pick up a couple of bottles of white wine for round two. :) I'll likely make it again this week.
