This is gross :x but I think I see what happened...
We were weighing and giving wellness checks to our 3 week olds today and found one with a dirty and inflamed 'area'.
There was a little caked on poop, which was very difficult to dislodge... soaked, picked, trimmed and finally got it off.
In the process, soft poop squeezed out of the vent (so inflamed, can't say if buck or doe), which was enlarged and swollen~ not out of the anus.
{gag}
I am guessing the stuck poop shifted things so that the new poop was forced towards the vent. :x :shock:
I got this all cleaned up, trimmed away extra hair, and there was pus coming from the vent (the skin around looked ok, but I would think there would be irritation there, too, from what was stuck).
Knowing it would probably hurt like HECK, I flushed the whole area with hydrogen peroxide and used a q-tip to make sure it was very clean.
And then applied a little polysporin, figuring cleanliness is probably the best thing for it, but it couldn't hurt.
Is there something else I should do, other than monitor and keep clean?
Does it just sound like a freak occurance, or should I be looking for some issue with the plumbing on this one?
It has been fine to this point, I give full checks over every couple days, so it wasn't happening for long.
