I found a nearby spot that is a regular jungle for willow and I noticed that when I put it in the cage in the morning they will either ignore it or just nibble on the bark a little but after dark it disappears bark, wood and all. My buck likes to drag all the brush into one corner and hide in it till dark. Guess willow is an ideal midnight snack for rabbits.

One of mine liked to peel the larger sticks and then shove them through the bars of the cage at me--very deliberately, to get my attention, "Hey, lady! Can I get a fresh stick here? Hey! Hey!" If I pushed it back in the others would start nibbling again, but this one would forecefully shove it right back out, lol!

Odd behaviour... but as long as the rabbits don't start multiplying like gremlins fed after midnight....

The gremlins were the RESULT of feeding/watering after midnight....

 Just the mental picture of the buck...

That is pretty interesting. Wonder what's up with it?
I guess it's just a rabbits hiding instinct coming out. They are prey for just about anything with teeth and claws in nature so probably the instinct to hide is pretty strong. I have a woven willow tunnel in his cage and when there is no brush in his cage he hides in it. He comes out to socialize whenever I'm around. He's a pretty friendly guy and likes to be held. I got him at a pet store so I guess he was raised as someones pet.

My colonies tend toward the "quiet during the day" and then bouncing all over the place at night. Most food is eaten at night here. One of the American bucks loves hay, and it sounds a bit like what happens with your willow. He'll pile it in a corner and then just go over to the pile and paw thru it until he finds the right piece. It's almost like watching someone go to the fridge and paw through everything to find something to eat.

I like to go out to the rabbitry just as the sun is coming up. That's when you really see the binkies when they see food coming.
