Two of my NZW's were due today. This morning I went out to check on them and Holly had already started pulling fur ... Yah, it was almost time :) Snow, my other doe, still had not started building her nest. (I places the best boxes in a couple days ago). As I was going around feeding, I noticed something near Snow's food dish. I moved Snow over to pick it up and it was a frozen kit. A good sized frozen kit. I then searched the rest of the cage (under hay, etc) and found no more. This was about three hours ago. I have been checking every half hour or so and she hasnt delivered anymore. Is this normal? All my rabbits give birth to all kits within minutes! She is a first time mom.

On a good note, Holly, our other doe gave birth to 10 kits this morning, one was still born.

I find this happens sometimes with first time moms...they will have one large kit. Have you palpated her to see if she has anymore in there?

I am not too good with palpating rabbits, but I did, I am pretty sure there are more! But now I am second quessing myself. I will head out and do it again to make sure!

__________ Thu Jan 31, 2013 1:08 pm __________

Just went out to check on her again. I palpating her again and their are definitly more in there!!! Do I just leave her and hope she kindles the rest today? It is her 31days today and she is still not attempting to make a nest. She isn't acting out of the ordinary either. She is eating, relaxing, and being her bunnyself!

If you have some fruit flavored Tums, you can give her one for a calcium boost. That may help.

thanks.

She has started nesting :) So hopefully everything goes well now. I just find it wierd she kindled one kit early this morning and now she is preparing to kindle the rest(hopefully) hours later!

So she finally kindled the rest of her litter after about 9-10 hours from the first kit. She had 10 more kits and out of 10, one was still born. I still think the first kit this morning was the biggest!
