Ok so recently I got a REW New Zealand doe and had her bred with one of her previous owners buck. Of the colors I got from them were solid black and blue, and black and blue otters.

Craigslist post has more information and pics of the mom and bunnies

So I REALLY want to save one from this litter preferably one of the does and cross them to my magpie buck. When I used Kim’s Rabbit Hutch and now I’m stuck on which one I should save. Also one of the ‘solid’ blacks has a white paw and now I would suspect the vm gene but she doesn’t have blue eyes, but they almost look purple?

Most at least look grey but there are some that also look like hers.
Now I have yet to really dive into the world of rabbit genetics but I have no idea where to even begin research to see what’s going on with this litter. Can I plz get some help.

I will also attach some more images of the other siblings.

Also sorry if I got sidetracked on my question I just have lots of things I want to know and honestly this happens to me too often.

Which would give me the most colors or range of colors? Would I be getting more blues and greys and blacks? Or would I get like agouti, and fawns/oranges along with those colors? Also after looking more into colors and color names, looks like they are Blue Silver Martens and NOT Otters so don’t know how muck that might change things.

I don't know what the sire of these is but the first black silver marten one looks to have harlequin markings so if you are breeding to a magpie and want a variety of color that might be a good one to keep. otherwise, what you'll get out of them is probably going to be about the same so you might as well just keep the one with the best type, temperament and growth rate.

Black SM is a boy but I can breed him to my doe. I also don’t know what the sire looked like (we got her bred). But that sounds like a good plan.

If you could figure out some of the parent's genes, you can sometimes predict the color. That is what I did with mine. I expected all castor but carrying some recessives and I was surprised to find I got two red/orange ones. You can then take that and put it back into the parents to figure out who carries what gene. You can also look if you know the parents' parents and any littermates of theirs to try and predict the rabbit's different alleles.

if I were looking for a wider range of colours... keep the blue. gives you dilute with the chance (depending on what mom is under that coat) for dominant colours as well.

The white foot and purple eye... Pretty sure that's vienna gene.

What colour is your magpie?
