My 3 month old bunny does not like hay?Is that really possible? She will not eat the timothy hay I give her Can I give her other types of hay besides timothy hay that are as healthy?

__________ Wed Oct 10, 2012 2:51 pm __________

I give Alfalfa to growing buns, then switch to Timothy. So given she's still young, you could try that. Just switch it out when she matures or is not pregnant and milking so she doesn't gain too much extra weight.

Are you feeding pellets? Sometimes it takes pellet-fed rabbits a bit of time to discover the joys of hay.

If this timothy hay is from the pet shop, it may not be very nice. See if you can find a local farmer with a small bale of grass hay to sell. Maybe CraigsList?

Alfalfa hay is very nutritious, but it can be too rich for mature rabbits if the rabbits are also getting pellets. A mix of alfalfa and grass hay should be okay though.

Mine hate hay. You can keep trying different kinds or just give up on it. Giving grass is also fiber, probably why mine won't eat hay, they've got enough grass stuff in their pens.

Mine have an on again / off again thing with hay. I feed a handfull per rabbit in a wire rack each evening. Sometimes it gone by the next evening, and other times it may sit for a few days before being consumed.

__________ Wed Oct 10, 2012 5:15 pm __________

Grasshay is a very important part of a rabbits diet,
the long fiber helps to keep the hindgut working properly.
My rabbits [the whole herd] receive a goodly portion
of grass-hay in their Hay-rack at least two or three times
a week. Their diet consists of: Mainly pelleted Rabbit feed
Grasshay and water, of course they do get some other food items
now and then.
