I'm so confused and disappointed. :weep:
So I bred my doe and she had a litter in July. Then I bred her again, right after the kits were about 8 weeks old, hoping to get a litter in before winter. 31 days came and passed. No babies. I rebred her AGAIN, because I really just wanted more babies at this point, and palpated her at two weeks. I felt small balls. Today is her due date. I palpated her, and all I could feel are small dropping sized balls! :( I guess I'm just really bad at palpating, and they are just poo poos, and not fetus. What is wrong? :(
Why isn't she taking? The first time she didn't take was because my buck wasn't feeling well. But this last time, I left them together for a week, and the first two days he was at it almost all day long! I just don't understand! I really want babies!!!!!

Maybe he was sterile from the heat? I have tried to palpate many times and still have no idea what I am doing. Could be the feed? I had issues the food I was using before and had to switch. Sorry things aren't working out.

Overfed rabbits are also poor breeders, and it's easy to overfeed small types.

You said previously that your rabbit wasn't a very good mother, but you didn't really clarify how she was failing.

Oh, sorry I thought you meant food issues as in, food that was making your doe unfertile.

This was covered in your prior post - post243121.html#p243121
Also if your rabbits are not in good body condition or are still recovering from those illnesses or whatever killed the litter of kits they will not be fertile.

Ya, maybe that's it. My buck was still partially recovering....

How can you tell if your over feeding? I feed 1/2 cup a day of pellets, and a handful of timothy hay. (My doe is 4.4 lbs and my buck is 2.9 lbs.)

Oops sorry, um, well, she had the babies on the wire, and one of the babies face (Part of the mouth) was ripped off.
My guess is that she wasn't careful when pulling out her sack. And I didn't really give her much of a chance to be a "Good mother" because it was my first litter, and I was concerned for the babies, so I hand fed them twice a day. (By holding the doe down.) (But on the 3/4th week about once a day.) And I DID wipe them with a wet rag. So they could go potty. (And they did. ;) )
So I guess I can't really say she was a bad momma. By the end, she even fed the babies in front of me, when I'd put them in the cage the last week. (I didn't have to hold her down.) So I'm sure she'd probably be good...if I gave her the chance. :)
