My daughter Emmz101 and I went today and picked up 3 rabbits. A town about 50 minutes away gets lots of rabbits at their shelter. Emmz101 got what looks like a netherland dwarf doe but she says it is too big. I picked up what looks like in body shape 2 New Zealand does about 3 months old. They have red ticking all over their bodies. Beautiful little rabbits. What we were told is a local fair had some meat pens that did not get picked up. The fair let whoever wanted them take them. Some college kid got them then he got rid of them a week later. I know they are pure as local fairs only let kids sell purebred meat pens. I can not find any pictures online that look like them. They are very pretty little does. We left the buck as we have enough bucks. The town shelter was real nice and we will be keeping a look out there more often. They say they get lots of rabbits all the time. We were charged $8.each. figured if they don't work out they will taste good. I go shopping in that town every month so figure to start checking there. They knew we were breeders and we talked about the different clientele they will get compared to us. The lady who helped us was real glad we got them and had us sex them to make sure what they were. Daughter is going to go once in a while to volunteer. Does anyone know what the color for the NZ does would be? I will get pictures later.

here are the pictures I took. The red ticking is pretty even throughout the coat. It goes all the way down to the skin. The skin is a reddish tan not white. The belly fur is a creamy white color. Look at those big ears.

OK I found a rabbit that fits what my new rabbits. Can they be Creme D’Argent. If so should I go back for the male? here is a site with pictures. http://www.cremedargent.org/Photo_Gallery.php. The information I found says they are born dark and lighten as they age. So what do you all think?

Nyctra that is what I am thinking. should I go back for the male? It is a 50 minute drive and will cost me $8.

Demamma, I am rabbit crazy atm, so I would say go for it! Even if you aren't 100% sure of the breed, having a purebred pair could be really useful in the future as an extra option.

As far as finding out the breed, could you take your doe down to a local show and ask around? If it is purebred someone looking up close could probably identify it.

I think I will go back for the buck. I never seen this kind of rabbit before. There are too many neat rabbit breeds out there. So if they are siblings and I don't figure out where to get another buck I will need to figure out how to do the breeding so not to mess them up. They are the sweetest and oh so gentle. I think this will be a good one for my 9 year old daughter. Named them Lupine and Fescue from the Red wallbook series.

They look like Cremme D argents too me too.i would get the buck for sure.I rarely see these at shows and they are not cheap.

The shelter is 50 minutes away. They open up at 12:00 so I am going to be there first thing. How would I do the breeding if they are related brother to sister?

You just breed them... :) And then be prepared to cull hard for anything you see that is not right. Which means you *might* end up with one good one out of 10, but that is how you do it. Then, breed daughter back to father and son back to mother. Do the rabbits have any ear tattoos?

The rabbits do have what looks like a breeders tattoo. dont remember what it was though. will look later. I leave in 30 minutes to get the buck.

Very definitely Creme D'argent. They are Purebred if they came from a meat pen. Hard to find and worth your while!! Not bad type! They are still getting their silvering and will "silver out" a bit more. Very exciting! Their age will be somewhere around 12-14 weeks at most.

I knew one of you would chime in! WooHoo! What a deal! :mbounce: Purebred Cremes for $8 each! :money: I am INSANELY jealous right now.... :grump: I would love some cremes or bruns.... :goodjob:

I got the buck. These are very sweet rabbits. I am planning on them being used to breed my younger kids meat pens. They are smaller than my californians and New Zealands and a lot calmer. Their tattoo's are KS1, KS2 and KS3. My bet is they were tattooed just for the meat pen. Wish I knew where they came from. Thanks for all your guys help. I will for sure be trying to breed and make it better. I am so excited. Cant wait till they are old enough to breed. I will be culling heavy. The first keepers will go to my youngest son and daughter for their breeders. One of the does has a slight turn in her ear that I will not want in the future so will be watching for that.

Check with the local 4H or FFA, "KS" is likely the kid's initials that showed them.

There are two local counties that they might of come from. I will check with them. I am not getting anything done because I keep going out to look and play with the rabbits.:slap:
