I use the choke chain method for anything under 5 months, and a piece of rebar for anything older than that. Using rebar minimizes bruising. Others use a pellet gun, a dead bolt, using their hands, etc. There is one person on here who decapitates them.

Ok great. I had thought we might try the 2x4 method but the choke chain sounds like it might be a bit easier.

I am the person who decapitates them. I find it to be the most humane way for me. The rabbits are extremely calm as a matter of fact they are eating the grass until the moment that I cut their head off. I use large loppers for branches, slide it down around their neck calmly and then whisk! I'm done and they didn't know a thing about it. There is no chance for error or maiming because they can't move once I put it around their neck they're pinned to the ground. I will say it is something you should do outside however.

Yes! I wouldn’t imagine doing that inside!

And here I was trying to figure out a rabbit sized guillotine! How to get enough weight at that size to have it work, etc. Hmm, maybe spring loaded? Well, loppers are a much easier answer, but still, a nice cute little guillotine and maybe you could blindfold them and let them have a last cigarette? Hmm, that's not healthy, now is it?

So if your loppers are not sharp as they should be, this still works to break the neck most efficiently. I needed to cull a couple of young ones, I wasn't real happy about it and this was so much better. Thank you.

I actually got the idea from this post New favorite dispatch method and they had dull loppers that merely broke the rabbits neck and they did it in their kitchen. We just thought cutting their head off would skip a step

It worked well for me. Now hubby is using a bone cutter (kind of like a paper cutter but metal) where he bops them and immediately cuts off the head. He said it made processing easier for him and it must have as he got down to under 10 minutes per rabbits.
