hi :) so, i'm really not sure about this, I'm sure I sound stupid asking this, but, If I own a buck, whom I bought from another rabbitry, would I put my own rabbitry's name next to his on the offspring pedigrees? Or would I put the name of rabbitry I got him from? Thanxx :)

Hi, I Love Some Bunny! Welcome to the forum. :)

You use the breeder's rabbitry name for him. Any kits you breed out of him carry your rabbitry name.

Repeat after me... there are no stupid questions!

Think of it as recording the birth place of each rabbit. If your rabbit ever runs for president, you want a paper trail to prove citizenship.

Hello I.love.some.bunny. Whew that's a long handle!
The Rabbit you purchased retains the name of the breeder.
Any Rabbit/Kit born in your Barn/Rabbitry gets the name
of your Rabbitry.

:hi: to Rabbit Talk!

Okay, another question to add. :) Do the same rules apply if the breeder left the name on the pedigree blank?

What about if you buy a bred doe? Would the kits be pedigreed with your name or actual breeder.

My perception is that if I chose to breed rabbit A to rabbit B, then I am the breeder. If someone else makes the decision, then they are the breeder. If the breeder chose the buck and you had no intellectual input, I would name them with the breeder's prefix. If you had any input, I would ask the breeder what their preference is.

Yes. Use the breeder's rabbitry name, followed by your choice of name.

When my Rex breeder wanted a kit back, she told me to put her prefix on. When she asked me who I wanted the doe bred to before I took her home, she let me name the kits. I still consider all of my stock her stock, because I got all but two of my Rex from her. When I make the cross from the WI stock to hers for a generation or two, I will consider them my breeding.

That's what I'm thinking. If the breeder breeds one of there does with one of there bucks before you receive her, then the pedigree should name them as the breeder. Am I right?

yes, you are indeed correct. AND THANK YOU for being concerned on this. Too many people simply don't care about it.

I have a question...

If you're making a pedigree, should it have as many generations as you have/can fit, or just back to great grand parents?

Typically its three generations, generation 4 has 16 rabbits to write down, its a bit difficult getting that many rabbits onto a regular sized pedigree
