I know that sounds like a weird question but....
I've been reading various breeders advice on breeding netherland dwarfs. I read that if you put them together, and they mate, you must separate the immediately because if you leave them in the same hutch the female can get pregnant once and then a week later get pregnant again, which causes them to lose their babies. Is that true? (I've never heard of an animal, or people, getting pregnant while already pregnant). So, is that really true?

Uhm, ok, someone else will have the more technical terms, but as I understand it...

A rabbit has like... two parts to her uterus. If she's bred, she can get pregnant in one or both. If she's bred again, and only pregnant in one part, she can get pregnant with a second litter in the other part. That can either cause her to miscarry/reabsorb both litters, or deliver one healthy litter and one that's only part-way done developing. I think the miscarry/reabsorb is more likely than the one healthy/one not done though.

And it's not just Netherlands Dwarfs, but all rabbits that are like that.

My doe is now raising a litter whom she got pregnant of when she was already pregnant month a go, but hours before kindling.
Basically, i was worried and let the buck see her to induce labor, he covered her.. hours later she kindled.. and a month later she kindled again.
She has not been with buck AFTER kindling but 6 hours BEFORE.
I was shocked..

And a friend of mine had left her doe with the buck for weeks, she delivered 2 litters within a week apart of another, the first litter died.

Believe it or not, some years back I remember reading in the paper (remember newspapers?) about a human case. The woman had the first delivered by caesarian and then had to stay very quiet for 3 months while the other baby finished growing. She carried both successfully!
