I have a young dutch that was bread for the first time 9 days ago.
My daughter and I were out checking the buns earlier and she noticed the bunny pulling fur.
So i grabbed a nest box and some hay, placed it in her cage and went to check my records. That is when i realized it was only 9 days ago she was bread. Later when i went to check he again, she was in full nest building mode.
What should i expect? still borns? or is she just planning ahead...haha (hopefully)

Hormones seem to spike somewhere between 1-2 weeks after exposure to a buck whether bred or not. Some become aggressive, especially in colony toward other does, and sometimes they start nesting behavior. It doesn't really prove anything although it seems slightly more likely the doe does it as a false pregnancy than when actually pregnant. I would pull the box or it's probably just going to get unsanitary by the time kits come, if you can palpate at 2 weeks then do that and rebreed or get ready for kits in a few weeks, and if you can't palpate just assume pregnancy and put in a box at the right time. Wait until at least day 35 of no kits to try breeding again.

I have a doe who started sporting a hay mustache that early in her first pregnancy. She went on to have a nice, big healthy litter, too. She is extremely fastidious and keeps her nestbox spotless. I always give her a nestbox early because of her wonderful habits.

I have had a couple of does do that, too. I have given a nestbox so they can play "house" until they tire of it, and then I remove the nestbox.

It really helps when you right the date down right too! I had the nest box in for a day and she never really built a nest. So i took it out and just watched he close. Then last night i was doing my rounds and notices ALOT of her fur in the corner. SO i gave her hay and a box....... today 8 little kits.
So when using a calander to keep track... check the month you write on first!

Thanks everyone. This is a great place to come for help!

i have a doe that just started nesting. bought her on the 9th. this morning when I was going to clean my two doe's cage I noticed a pile of fur in a box my son put in there for them. so i am very curious to see if she someone got pregnant from her brother before I got her, or if is a false pregnancy.
