Mom is a NZW, and dad is our new NZB buck. Counting all white kits one by one, and at the very bottom of the pile, one lone black kit! LOL! Never had this here before. When we've bred our NZW buck to our NZB does, we always get either black or agouti, so it was funny to see this today.

Been very pleased with this new buck. He's never been bred before, and both does we bred him to took. Today's litter, this doe has never produced more than 7 kits, and the litter of 8 today has been her largest to date.

 That's funny!

About to head out, feed the buns, and check nestboxes. Gonna be a scorcher today and tomorrow! I really don't like this heat at all.

What a great surprize!! I bet he/she gets a lot of attention! My kids always seem to favor the odd kit.

Ugg, dont remind me of the heat  we have a 4h rabbit clinic today and baseball games on Thurday and Friday! I was hoping baseball would be cancelled since we are supposed to hit 100 on Thursday.

Thank you! :D Believe it or not, it is my hubby that spoils the kits! He enjoys spending time with them while I feed. I love it that way!

Just got back in, there may be one from this litter that is questionable, but we'll see how it goes. It has a belly now, but it seems a bit weaker than the others, and it's definitely smaller.

Last weeks litter I'm a bit concerned. I found 3 of them way under the hay in there, up front, and 3 in the back of the box snuggled in moms fur. One from the back seems a bit cold, so I warmed it up, and put them all back together, then packed down that hay really good. I'm concerned for the 3 that were under the hay, they seem so much more bloated than the others. Gonna head out in another hour to check on them.

I am a BIG proponent of a herd sire is worth his weight...what ever it is. If it is show rabbits it is 50% of your budget. I love keeping stats, and if these kits and his others are on a regular basis bigger and grow out better...whether they are fryers or show bunnies...he is a keeper. Congrats. Keep us updated.

Thank you! :) I still feel we got very lucky with him, especially around here. We bought him for $25 from a young girl who had shown him in 4H, and she said he did very well. He is a very solid buck! He's 2 years old, she had him since he was a weanling, and he'd never been bred before. We feel very fortunate that he has produced litters for us right from the start, and it will be interesting as these first kits from him grow.
