Had one kit that had a bit of crusty on its eye as they began to open. No big deal, cleaned it with warm water as I have on past kits and thought nothing of it. I got hit by the nasty cold bug and haven't paid a whole lot of attention to what's been happening in the bunny barn the past week.
So now I have a month old kit (yes the same one) with a very pussy and swollen eye. The kit has obviously been scratching at it because its back foot on that side is crusty bloody also. Cleaned everything up with warm water and it doesn't look as bad as I expected, but still very painful looking. What if anything should I put on the eyelid? Directly in the eye?
Thanks guys!

Terramycin..antibiotic ophthalmic ointment.. treat four times a day for ten days then twice a day for five more days.. for soothing it you can use a warm tea bag as a compress.

JMHO, --I like, warm compress for 3 to 5 min, gentle cleaning, then antibiotic eye ointment [ like listed above or neopolygram], put ointment inside the bottom lid by squeezing a little on the tube so a little ointment is hanging out of the tube , then gently pull the bottom lid out a little and wipe the ointment inside the lower lid, - followed by optixcare in 10 min. or so. [same procedure as above] if the eye is very swollen, then try to get some ointment under the upper eye lid as well, -BID [2 x /day] when cleaning ,pull eyelids out just a little and look for straw, or other junk stuck in there [I have found foxtail , or other "junk" when doing this, if you find "junk" use a damp q-tip to remove it] be careful not to scratch the eyeball when doing any of these procedures .
