I have a couple larger cages for kindling does, and have large nest boxes for them. However, I've been acquiring more does than I have large cages for... So, is it possible to kindle in smaller 24x24 cages, presumably with a smaller nest box? My current does are 7.5-10 lbs, Calis and meat mutts. The nest boxes in the large kindling cages are too big to fit in the small cages, and really they seem unnecessarily large anyway.

If a 24x24 cage is okay, how big should I build the nest boxes for those cages?

Thanks!

The nest box should give the doe about an inch clearance on each side of her body with maybe a tad more head to tail.

Can you time your breedings so that you can keep a pregnant doe in a 24" x 24" for most of her pregnancy and move a weaned litter out of the kindling cage a couple of days prior to her due date?
