We are thinking of getting rabbits in a “colony“ set-up and building a small shed for them in our backyard from scrap lumber - estimating about 8 by 8. Due to space and time limitations I want to know if it is ok to start with just one breeding doe (and one buck). It seems all the online information mentions two does per buck. What are the pros and cons of starting with just one doe and buck? Is it a bad idea to start with just one doe? Will she be lonely? Will the buck overbreed or harass her if there are no other does? In addition to space concerns, we are also concerned about two does producing too much meat for us. Plus they will require more time to take care of. It is just my husband and I so we don’t want a lot of rabbit meat every year - just a little.
