my goals: to breed chocolate polish, preferably worthy of showing.

I have four bucks... looking at only keeping two.

I have one broken chocolate doe - nicky who other than throwing kits who have a hard to zero ability to kindle, is what I want to breed. She small, nicely tempered, and just a nice rabbit.

I have dusty - broken black who I haven't shown because I don't think she'd compete. She's got width and a so so head. Kylee who is long in the shoulder. Magic is a lovey black, took reserve in rockton I'm told, Jade: brood..huge chocolate doe whom I'm told produces quality kits. Tara a junior broken blue polish who is definitely going to be smaller than momma and I think overall will be decent.

These are what I have for bucks
Mitch: GC, solid black

Rustic: one leg, solid chocolate - love his personality, but he throws funny coloured chocolate kits. Haven't had him long enough to see how they out grow their baby coats.
One who is difficult to get hold still.

Popper: took reserve in Rockton I'm told. Like him. Lovely lad, is somewhat bigger than what I want to breed but he's not huge.

Spice
Technically still a junior, hasn't grown for a month. TINY lad. Sprays unless kept in a certain cage so will be selling...just trying to figure if he's worth breeding from
this lad is CONSTANT motion so trying to get a pic of him is a challenge

So using these bucks.... how do I get what I want to get out of my rabbits. KNOWING that I want to reduce my bucks down to TWO? I don't know how to do it.

Thanks for advice.

__________ Mon Feb 13, 2012 10:06 am __________

no thought eh? :)

The other forum suggested breeding everyone to Spice (then selling him) and then keeping Mitch to breed back for type and what not.

That will give me lots of black.. so I need to figure out my chocolate and how to maintain it.

Does Mitch have any chocolate in his background? He looks really nice but since black is the dominate gene...he will most likely throw black babies...but if he has chocolate somewhere, there is a chance!

I find that unless theres a lot of chocolate in the pedigree you wont get much if any chocolate out of the blacks.i dont know polish sorry.Im the worst at keeping way too many bucks.

Mitch has given me chocolate in the past...one .. and it was a peanut which was sad and very undesirable. But every other kit I've gotten off him has been black. But If I breed black to chocolate I get chocolate carriers which over time will give me chocolate if I breed to a chocolate buck. I expect I'll have two main colours in my polish.. black and chocolate, and over time I'll get more chocolate. Spice is out of a chocolate doe, Rustic is chocolate but is a bit flat, Popper is mostly black in his ped, and Mitch is black through his ped but I've gotten that one chocolate peanut so he has chocolate somewhere in him. :)

Here is my suggestion...and I am by no means an expert...I personally think I would keep both the solid bucks, Mitch and Rustic. Then I would breed Rustic to Nicky, Jade and Tara and then maybe you will get a really nice colored buck from one of those breedings that you might prefer over Rustic. I would only keep the broken bucks if they were broken chocolates since your desired color is chocolate. I just love the way the black looks- nice head and ears. He looks like our guy that we just lost this year - Cole, who was about six years old.

I'm leaning to keeping Mitch (the solid black), Breeding everything to Rustic and then back to Mitch and finding Rustic a home, keeping any broken chocolates i get out of him. using Mitch to keep in type as Rustic is a bit flat. Spice will hang about until I find a home for him (I have a potential lined up).
