I had a holland lop kindle before and only one survived ( one stillborn and one peanut in the litter as well)

My mini rex just had eight babies, sticking my hand in the nest box to head count today, they were crazy active, desperately trying to nurse off my hand and wrinkly bellies. I am thinking I will need to hold her down and force nurse them, hopefully just for the first time and then she will get it?

Anyone have experience with this?

I wish I had a foster to help her with how many babies she has.

How long has it been since she kindled? Her milk may not have come in yet.

But it is quite common for a first-time doe to mess one or more things up, even figuring out the nursing thing. You very well may need to block her ability to get out of the box for a time or three or four.

We recently had to do that with a doe. Took four of us to contain her in the box. But the box had no covered area.
