i asked this on a topic but i thought i would ask in its own topic just to be clear.

i live on a good size farm and lets just say that one root can make a bush that gets to about 4ft wide and about 8ft tall. and then it gets undergrown with poison ivy and the poison ivy grows all over the bush.

so....MULTI-FLOURA-ROSE. the huge annoying obnoxious weed bushes.
can i feed these whole? like cut peices of about 4 inches and feed them. stem and leaves. because i get jabbed by thorns enough as it is, lol. so as much as i am all for free feed i'm not stripping leaves from those!

so is it safe or no?

I saw that this was answered on the other topic - as yes you can. Good news for me as well, as I have plenty of that stuff around. Thorns from hell, and even gloves are not a guarantee of protection. Ha.

I use pruning shears to harvest leaves from plants with spines. It makes it a lot easier. I hold the leaves and clip the leafy sections above the worst of the thorns. Rabbits can handle some thorns without problems, but I don't like to give mine anything with really wicked thorns.

Just a caution about the poison ivy. I don't know how it would affect rabbits, but I would be extremely careful around it -- for your own sake as well as the buns.

thanks.
and ya, i let the goats go at the poison ivy infested ones when i can. goats eat poison ivy and m-f-r with relish. lucky for me.
and i know all abot poison ivy... lol. i've had it on just about every inch of my body. let me tell ya havin it between your toes and fingers is HECK!!! hahaha. i tend to be a poison ivy magnet for whatever reason.

Ohiogoatgirl... if your goats are eating poison ivy and you handle them, you will most certainly get it from them! Lots of people also get it from their dogs, dogs are not affected but if they touch you or you pet them just after.. BOOM!

yes i know that. lol.
you get poison ivy from the oils that the plant makes that lay on its leaves and stem. you touch it and the oils get on your skin. the oils irritate your skin, making it itch and swell and depending on how much oil and how much you itch then you can itch the skin off or get the sores that puss up.

the oils from poison ivy can last on objects (clothes, logs, branches, shoes, etc) for up to five years or somethin. its a long time i remember, i wanna say five years though.

i'm like the queen of poison ivy. xD
