Tonight I moved all the rabbits, except the growers, around to new plots. Noticed the SF pair escaped into the Cali's side and the SF doe wasn't beating her up too much. That's why I decided it was time for new pens.

Got two more crate panels and moved the Cali pair and AmChin doe into the tall weeds. Moved the two new buddies and the buck next to the others in the weeds.
Used the pen I was resting for the escapees after I lined it with hardware cloth and chicken wire. Moved the little Cali buck that was in isolation for being a butthead in there as well.

Doing water changes on my aquariums, pics as soon as I'm done!

5 babies were crammed into one crate, sleeping, one upside down. The 6th guy that was in isolation was out and about. Lol.

You're not raising rabbits, you're raising weed-whackers and lawnmowers! You could market them as the animal equivalent to the robotic lawnmower! :p Much more cost effective. ;)

YouTube video should be showing up, but in case it's not, here is the link. =D
The bunnies were out cold!

Grower yard is nearly mowed. Gotta start thinking about where I'll move the pen to next.
Two Californians and the AmChin live here.
Two Silver Fox and a Cali in there.
6 Escapee's pen.
And a pic of the light Chin mix. They were all sleeping and I dared to wake them...=D

You are so lucky to have all that grass! What I wouldn't give for green growth around here.

I know you have been looking for alfalfa seed... but red and white clover are good for rabbits too. I bought a large can of white clover seed to plant around my trees and grape vines (this was before I started natural feeding- red clover would have been better because it gets taller), but you could get some of that and broadcast it in your grazing areas.

I didn't watch the video- we got a usage warning from Wildblue- but hopefully I can watch it another time.

There is soooo much lush clover out next to the barn...it's not fair. Can't move them out there because I'd have to make a new hot wire fence. :/
Once the weeds in the garden run out, I'll be hiking out there to pull it for the piggies. Might pull some for the escapees and the growers tonight.

Going to try and get some stills to post from the video.

I bet you could transplant it! :p Just dig up "plugs" of it, and plant it in the grazing areas that are "resting" so it can get established before you put the rabbits back in the area.

Oh, forgot to mention yesterday. One of the Chin mix does in the grower pen was so ~hyper~! She was dashing this way and that way, flying over there, jumping over everyone and just high on happy bunny madness. =D It was neat.

Anyway, video stills. White bun is not a morning bun at all, all of them still sleep like tiny kits in a nest. :D
Poor upside down bun couldn't flip over for awhile.

Thanks so much for sharing! What sweet kits. And think it's amazing that you can do what you are doing! Good for you! Wishing you continued success.

Have to say, when we had our buns out at on early morning, even before the sun came out, it was truly pleasurable to watch them run and jump and actually act like Wild Rabbits. Willard, my Netherland was like a DART! And my "Couch Potato" Dobby, actually exercised. Showing us he actually can move fast. lol

Don't pull the clover. Cut it, leaving the roots intact so it can grow again.

Meant pull as in feed them right then tonight. My horses follow me when I pull clover for the pigs. They will be extra grumpy for me to be stealing whole clumps and leaving holes behind. lol. I'm not too happy about making more holes, either. I have so many of them in the rabbit yard already. I was going to make a picture thread about all the holes everywhere...=D

Moved the growers, extended both trio's pens as well. =D
I should just catch them all, make a giant pen and then use whats left for 2 dividing walls. But I'd have to buy new fencing then, which I sadly cannot afford right now...
Marked with gray the top of the fence so its easier to see.
And then some cute bun pics, cus I can. =p
Frosty little doe is so pretty!
Yes, the horses are stealing hay in the background.

They really stay in there and don't dig out??? You mentioned electric fence, where are you using it?

All I have done so far is put mine in upside-down cages (so the larger wire is on the grass) to nibble a bit. But they're usually too scared being out in the open, they're used to their cages hanging under cover.

I had to drive hours and hours for everything I have here now, I don't want to risk any escapees.

Chicksnbunnies Do you leave yours out in the winter as well? Or do they go in the barn when the snow flies?

The electric fence is on the perimeter of the yard, 140x130ft or so. It's only to keep fox and coon out.

Only rabbits small enough to just slip out escape, the bigger rabbits only start to think about it when they wore out all the grass. For the small buns, I have a pen lined with hardware cloth.

There's digging, at the fence, middle of the pen, next to a hut. Mine are only digging to get to the cold Earth.

My rabbits hide out all day until 7pm or when it gets cool in the evening. That's probably why they won't hop around when you put them out. They also would move more with any kind of shade from the sky.

__________ Fri Aug 31, 2012 5:33 pm __________

First year with this setup, I have tractors and hanging cages if something goes wrong during winter and I need to pen them up. My main worry will be any sudden snow or freezing rain on the electric fence.

I've never had electric fence problems to speak of in winter. But I get snow not ice so much.

2nd Cali with the pink ears, was making a nest! I saw all the fur and she was in there digging and mixing dirt, grasses and her fur. Tossed every pen a bunch of hay, hoping this doe uses it and the nest survives the rain we are supposed to be having for a week.

Cliff hangers are NOT funny!

What happened????

<----Jealous :weep:
I've been trying to get that type of set up (pigs, horses and all) but can't get the land. Looks like you've made it real nice though. Congrats on it all.
