I picked up a buck today and the mosquitoes have done quite a number on him... He was in an outside hutch and the bugs are horrible this year, even for our area.

My rabbits are all in a screened in porch so very few bites.
He'll be able to heal now.

But he has lost a fair bit of hair on the back of his neck and his skin is inflamed with visible bites. No sign of infection.

I'm figuring I'll clean it all well with a mild antiseptic.
Is there something I can put on to soothe the skin, promote healing?
I have aloe. I wondered about a vitamin e ointment?
Something else? Just keep it clean and dry?

nobody is getting outside in the pens until these bugs ease up!

Thanks!

I know that a wash of marigolds are good for bug bites, as are plantain plants that have been chewed a little bit and applied to the bite area reduce swelling and pain. Basil leaves can be rubbedon insect bites to reduce itching and inflammation.

Could it be fur mites, instead? Some food-grade Diatomaceous Earth rubbed into his fur should fix that.

The back of the neck is a typical place for fur mites to start.
