Turns out that rabbits are like domesticated elk. If you keep them happy in their pasture with fresh grazing and plenty of food and shelter, they won't leave. If they decide that they want to leave, though, you can't really stop them.

I've been putting off moving the rabbit tractor for a couple of days until my boyfriend would be around to help me (its heavy!). They grazed their little pasture down to the dirt, so I decided to supplement some hay until they could get moved.

Not good enough, I guess.

When I went out to feed, the Cal does were grazing happily right outside of a HUGE hole that went from inside of their house to just outside. When did they dig that?! I used all my superpowers to rotate the pen so they'd have fresh grass until the tractor can get fully moved. Little stinkers. They weren't hard to catch either, just walked up to them, picked them up, and put them back in the pen.

Mine have escaped from their colony a couple of times by burrowing under the retaining walls.... They didn't go far and seemed to be relieved to be put back.

__________ Sat Mar 31, 2012 9:06 am __________

Mine have escaped from their colony a couple of times by burrowing under the retaining walls.... Methinks you should have named your rabbitry "Liberty Lovin' Lagomorphs"... Luna seems to have infected them all with a lust for freedom!

No kidding. Helena decided to leave today, and took all of her 3-week old babies with her. Thankfully I caught five babies, then Helena, and I just counted six babies so the last one must have come back on his own somehow.
