So our 3 holland does had kits 1/2-2 weeks ago, giving us a total of 18 babies. One of them, our sr doe, had the smallest litter of only 4 babies, one being stretched and died on the way out. She is still frantically digging and nesting all the time. She has fostered one from the other litter and is feeding all four of those very well, so her milk has been in for a while. I just can understand why she's so obsessed with continuing to build her nest, or just not happy with it. Is it possible she's not done kindling? I know those baby/babies would not survive, and I have checked her vulva and she's looking fine, but just wondering if it would be possible to have another stuck one?

It is possible she has a stuck kit. or a mummified one :x

She could also be a fussy mother how likes to hide her nest from predators

If it is bothering her that much I would pull the nest box and only return the kits twice a day for feeding

So what happens if she does? She will eventually have it? She finally went the night and morning without dumping her litter pan over, and seems more calmed down, but I don't know. Her last litter she didn't seem to do this. And she only had 4 while the others had 7 and 8, but she is older. Guess I'll just look out for problems....

-- Tue Mar 29, 2016 2:48 pm --

Now today she dumped it and put more hay all in there again, she even put the woodchips she peed on in with them!

Maybe her hormones haven't gone back to a normal post-partum level. I'd remove the nest and bring it to her twice a day. Maybe after a few days to a week or so, she'll be more settled.

Her kits turned a week old today, and I felt around as much as she would let me and I didn't feel anything left.....but who knows if I would for sure....I'll try bringing the nest to her and see if that helps..
