This morning, I checked on the rabbits and Mocha had just finished kindling. She had 9, in the nest, cleaned up and covered with fur. None appear to be runts and all were wiggly and warm. I am so proud of my first time momma! She also seems to be doing better since I started giving her the Probios. No more runny, jelly poops and she is eating hay and drinking water. Her poops aren't quite back to normal, smaller and not quite round but she is eating and pooping. The only question I have is that since I am only feeding her hay at the moment, will that be enough food for her to make milk for her babies?

Congratulations! :wbounce:

Grass hay or alfalfa hay? Alfalfa has a lot of protein so should give her more to make milk with. I think at this point I would add a small amount of kitchen oatmeal (Like Quaker Old Fashioned, not instant). If she handles that without problems, I would gradually increase the amount and then reintroduce her regular feed slowly. Just what I would do, but do what feels right to you.

I don't have any alfalfa hay, just coastal grass hay. I will start adding some oatmeal and then gradually work her back to pellets.

Sounds fine. I mentioned alfalfa because if she was getting that it would be less essential to reintroduce other foods right away. Good luck... hope all goes smoothly from here! :clover:

PPPPP! Photos, we need photos!

I know, I know...I was not expecting to see the kits this morning when I went out and so did not take my phone. I will take some when I get home later this evening...I promise! LOL

Okay, I guess we'll wait <sigh>. I'm glad she had them before you had to go to work so you needn't worry all day!

Congratulations! :bouncy:

So glad Mocha's doing fine, and that's an amazing nest she built!!! Were you already aware that she knew how to weave? :p

No, I had NO idea she was so multi-talented! LOL! Thanks, and yes, I am so glad that she is doing fine as well.<br /><br />__________ Fri Dec 16, 2011 9:56 am __________<br /><br />

Oh, me too....I really was worried that she would have them on the wire or something and we would not be here to help. Thank God, she kindled right on time and seems to have the makings of an excellent mom!

Congrats!! They all look wonderful! I love new kits, they are just so cute, and it's always exciting to see how many the doe has in the nest. :)

So this morning, all 9 are fed and warm. They are beginning to fur out nicely. Last night I cleaned out the box because either she peed on them or they peed on themselves and they were soaked! Tried to get an extra feeding in for the smallest with Roxie, but the cat startled her and the kit went "plop" onto the floor!!! It seemed ok and is still alive this morning so it must be alright....scared me though....dang cat!

What solid looking little guys! How wonderful to see such healthy kits.

When I was having Feather nurse her babies on my lap, she kicked one and it went flying about 10 feet! ACK! Didn't kill it, but it ultimately didn't survive- only have 2 left out of 7 :( . Alas! <sigh>
