My English Angora doe is currently bred with her first litter. Was bred 3/14 so she isn't due for at least a week. Today I noticed a small amount of blood and my immediate thought was miscarriage . Blood definitely came from vaginal area but I see no partially formed kits and the bleeding has stopped. It was only one small puddle. I have noticed a drop in her appetite the last few days as well. Beginning of miscarriage? Stuck kits? Semi-normal? I've raised a whole lot of bunnies but this is new territory for me.

My only experience with seeing blood like that was that kindling was coming. But it could be she miscarried one and disposed of the evidence herself, and she may still have live ones. You won't know for sure til past her due date. Most give up around day 35-36 if no kits appear. But I have also seen a small amount of blood from all 3 of my does after kindling, so my take on it is that it is somewhat normal, tho in your case earlier than I have seen myself. Pee can also be an orange/red color, and it's very possible when watching a pregnant doe to confuse it for blood. Especially if you are closely watching, when in the past you may not have noticed the same thing....

Thank you for your response. Its definitely blood, her vaginal area was bloody and swollen as well. I guess where my worry comes in is with retained kits. I didn't know it was possible for them to miscarry only one and still kindle live kits later on. I just found a small bit of blood again. I gave her some strawberry leaves and dandelion that is what i saw as a suggested way to help the pain and she ate all of that but still isnt drinking or touching hay or pellets. So bizarre.

Keep her drinking and eating as much as you can, especially drinking. It's normal for them to go off feed when kindling, but that shouldn't last long. You can also push oats and hay during this time:)

I had the same thing happen to my Holland doe last year. I brought her inside to kindle and my guess is that she got stressed out. I found a small puddle of blood, and she stopped eating pellets and hay. She got really thin and shortly after I found the blood (about a day or two later) kindled 3 premature kits about two weeks before her due date. I kept her alive by feeding oatmeal, pineapple, dandelion and raspberry leaves until she finally went back on hay. I also gave her a dish of water that she seemed to like better than the bottle. Oh, and once I saw she was drinking okay, I added some ground Echinacea to the water as well, it helps to boost the immune system.

About a half a year later, she is currently nursing a litter of 2 adorable and healthy kits! :D
