I just weighed my 2 mini rexes today and have a question about their weight/size, and breeding.

When do they stop growing is it at 6 months or do they continue to gain weight for a little while longer? Tex is 7.5 months old, he weighs 3 pounds 14 ounces, and Snuggles is 5.5 months old and weighs 2 pounds 12 ounces. Do them seem like good weights for MRs, will they gain a little more? I assume Snuggles will gain a little more since she is not quite 6 months yet.

Also what age do you reccomend breeding? Snugs is really acting like she wants to be bred. When we try to pet her she lays down and lifts for us. I am afraid to breed her because she is so small, so should i just wait a couple more months.

They are usually full grown at 6 months some Ive had reached their max earlier. 4lbs is an ideal for a MR but typically I keep smaller more compact buns. I dont know if Id take the chance of breeding for a first litter from that size difference, the buck at best should be the same or smaller to try to avoid complications but it can happen even with the best pairing too.

Thanks! I rhink I will wait then and see if she gets any bigger. If not I guess I will have to find a smaller buck, and maybe a bigger doe

Good luck...a bigger doe might be your better bet if you do decide to do so since bigger ones tend to have less birthing problems (or at least by what I've seen when comparing over the years and to my netherlands). When I had 'dwarf rex' (never went on with the breed start, other intersts took over) they would only have 2-3 kits and the smallest does (a little under 2lbs) never did well when bred to an out buck that was even a little larger. They did have nice type and over all look more consistantly per litter though.
