So I have a doe that is just awful while she is in her cage right now. I take her out and she is completely normal. Every time I pet her, she is lifting her butt straight in the air and I'm assuming it can only mean one thing: I wanna make more babies! She has 2 kits she is taking care of now that were born 2/27/12. She is a wonderful mom and made a lovely nest. I'm planning to breed her to my herd sire since her quality is wonderful, despite her wanting to be bred temperment. ( She won 3 legs as a junior. Planning on going to get some more legs on her in the fall cause she needs 1 more to get a GC certificate) Should I go ahead and breed when the kits are 4 or 6 weeks? I feel like her temper might chill out and I'll have some homebred juniors from my herd sire around fall time to show.

you could breed her now, you would take a hit on her condition from nursing the CURRENT bunnies, meet producers sometimes run does on short cycles breeding back on the second day, accepting that the doe will abandon the current kits a day or two before she kindles the next batch at about 4 weeks.

Why make her wait when SHE is obviously ready? She knows what is best for her body...just watch carefully to be sure she is maintaining condition and supplement as needed. Wean the kits in two weeks when they are a month old.

Breed her! The kits will be fine weaned at four weeks. I would start offering them oats and make sure they have hay to nibble in the nest too.

 sounds like a hormonal doe to me

And, don't be surprised if she weans the kits this next week, too!

I rebred that evil doe this afternoon after she bit my face this morning. She ran aroun lifting in her cage and when I gave her time to get out an about in a play pen outside. She had no problem lifting for my buck. Hopefully this will chill her out!

Her temperment may be due to the fact that she's ready to breed. Hormonal swings can apparently do that to any female!! ;) LOL!!!

I bred her every couple of hours today. I'm really hoping this does the trick. I figured that her attacking the small container that I use to pour the feed into her bin was serving as rewards for her behavior since she would get to eating immediately afterwards...so now I just take her out during feeding and watering time and then place her back in once I'm done so she doesn't associate biting/lashing out is a good thing :? Maybe that will help. Maybe it won't. Worth a shot at this point lol

WOO HOO! Taming of the shrew! It has worked. This morning I did the routine check, water, and feed and left the she devil for last. Finally, I cautiously and gingerly reached in with the food container and held it in front of her face.....nothing....maybe she's playing nice.... so I gave her a nudge with it and she gave me a soft grunt and a questioning look. I poked her a few other times and still nothing. I gather my wits (wore two thick jackets) and gave her a stroke on the head... another content grunt. Black magic. lol
