So my rabbits love the huge leaves that my mammoth sunflowers produce, and I'm just about to harvest 18 huge sunflower heads. From what I've read, BOSS is the go-to rabbit sunflower seed due to its oil content. Most other seeds are considered more of a protein/fat supplement. My rabbits are strictly for consumption, so would my mammoth seeds possibly serve my purposes at least as well as BOSS? I've also read to shell large sunflower seeds for rabbits. No way I'm taking the time to do that...anyone really think that it could be too much shell? I've been eating David sunflower seeds shell and all since my little league days, and I've never had a problem.

Your seeds should do fine. I wouldn't worry about shelling them, eating a few won't harm or clog up your rabbits digestive tract unless you plan to make them their main diet and not just as a supplement.

Everyone talks about BOSS because it is cheap, comes in bulk 50 lb bags and has 10-15% more fat/oil than regular seeds so you get more calories per pound, and per bite, but any sunflower seed will do.
