Ok I just got a buck satin rabbit. When I went to check if he was a male everytime we flip him over his testies go inside him and you cannot even tell he has them. The only reason we could tell he actually had them was when he was sitting normal you could find them. We were wondering why he is doing that and if it was normal. We never had any other bucks that have done that before. And he is full grown also.

Ok thank you. I've just never seen any other rabbit ever do that.. Could it be from the other male having been in here??

More likely from the fact that he is new to you, and maybe just a little scared yet.

If you just got him, he may be nervous when you flip him over. Temperature also could be a factor. They tend to draw the testicles up when it is cold and "let it all hang out" when it is very hot.

Yeah, hold him and pet him for a bit, then gently tip him so you can see his undercarriage ... it sounds like he is still scared and it is a defensive mechanism ... if you are planning on showing him, you will need to work with him so the judge can check his sex during showing.

Alright, this sounds silly, but I tried it and it works....:) Pick him up and shake him, putting more force on the downward part of the shake. It will make his testicles drop if they are not tethered...no joke! :)

LMAO!!!! That is just soo funny, OneAcre, and I have no doubt that it works!

The younger bucks go through a phase where the testes come out on a good day and go hide the rest of the time..... For sexing, I always stand by the "Tube vs. Slit" visual, and you can actually palpate testes that are not descended once you know where to find them. At about 18 to 20 weeks they will be tucked inside very close to the vents (inguinal tract which they descend through), place the side of a finger at the base of the penis/anal tract and gently roll outward, laterally, and you will feel a soft lump that is longer than it is wide, this is the teste, it will sort of roll around a but as you palpate it. Female rabbits do not have this!

i have a lot of nervous bucks who do this. more often they do this if they're young, or before they have their first chance at a doe. once they've had "their first go" or mature a little, they shouldn't do it as often. nothing wrong with it though, and even most judges will let it go until the rabbit is a senior.

The person who I had got the rabbit from said that he was a show rabbit. That is why i found it odd that he would do that as a defense because he should be use to being handled. He isn't young either but I don't think that he has ever been breed. Thanks for all of your advice!!

I thought they were usually pulled in because when I first got my buck they weren't out there swaying in the wind. Imagine my surprise when cleaning under the cages on nice hot day, I glanced up, and... I only have one buck, and it seems to be a temperature thing with him.
