My doe NZW seems to have some lumps around her nipples or it could just be on her chest as she has many nipples on her chest. She just had her 6 kits weaned from her in 3 days. I took 2 each day. This was about 1 week ago that the last one was taken. Since she was weaned I reduced the amount of pellets she receives to 1 cup a day, her normal amount. I tried milking the nipple around one of the lumps to see if any milk would come out but none came. I don't know what it is. I thought it could be a fatty tumor like you find on older dogs. It may be mastitis? (Hope not.) I haven't a clue and won't be taking her to a vet to find out either. Any suggestions on what it is?

I'd say it's milk. It might take a bit of effort to get the milk to "let down" but I'm thinking you should probably get some of the milk out to prevent mastitis.

Sounds like milk blocking the milk veins (what we call them in dogs). Apply a hot compress or heating pad and them squeeze until something comes out, puss or milk or blood, or a combination. I also injected Tylan into the hard spots, and worked it until I was able to express the milk. I am truly surprised that doe let me do that all day.

I'll give that a try and see if I can take some pictures. I didn't want to put the warm compresses on it since it was cold outside and I wasn't wanting to take the chance on her getting sick but I don't think I have a choice. I'll update.
