Well,I had a doe in a corner. I guess it was warmer in that corner than i thought. I lost her to heat. She was one of my better doe. She had a litter that are 3 weeks old. So far the kits are doing ok. I am feeding them alfalfa hay and grains and making sure they get old fashion oats to nibble on.

Oh no, Mary Ann! Sorry for your loss. :(

Are you sure it was the heat? When I was researching something else, I came across images of a rabbit's lungs that had died of heatstroke- they were blood red, not pink. Did you do a necropsy?

Oh no! How much hotter than usual was it? We have temps in the lower 90s already and while the rabbits don't look happy they haven't been too stressed. I plan to bring them inside when the temps hit over 100...

I'm so sorry, Mary Ann! I had that happen last year. We had misters going and everything (temps hit 113F), and all of the rabbits were doing well. Unfortunately, the drinking tube on one of the water bottles got stuck, and we didn't realize it until it was too late. Now we check the tubes at least twice a day.

So sorry, Mary Ann. :( The heat the past two days was something else. Thank goodness the cold front came through last evening.

The kits should do okay at three weeks, but do please ensure that they are drinking water. Dehydration is the biggest worry when they are suddenly deprived of mother's milk. If necessary, you can make mush with the oatmeal to increase their water intake until they are drinking water well.

Thanks everyone. Yes maggie the past two days were just aweful. I guess with her being in a corner .I used a tarp down oneside for shade. But i guess no breeze was getting in there. I will never put a rabbit in a corner again. I well lesson learned. The others are great. But they are in rows and getting lots of breeze and shade from the trees. I still have her babies in the same spot . I dont want to move them yet because of stress. They can handle more heat than a doe can.
