I am very new at breeding rabbits, and so far things have been going ok, we've lost a few kits to the cold, so now our living room is full of momma's and baby bunnies since we have several mini-rex does and meat breed does kindling this week and next.
Here is my situation:
I have a young Mini-rex doe, called Snow White. I say young, she should be right at a 1yr old if the breeder was accurate in her age when I bought her. I've attempted to breed her twice now. The first time nothing, didn't make a nest, no fur, no babies. Since she was young, I let it go, and re-bred after 40days. Now she is due on Friday. 2nd attempt.
Last week as we were feeding I noticed some blood, and what looked like blood clots in her drop pan. On closer inspection I think it was a kit, possibly two, but the other bubble wasn't whole. If it was a kit it was still very under developed, it looked like a blood bubble, but I'm almost 100% sure we could see the eye and beginnings of legs and ears.
My question is.....could she still have more kits developing inside, and still possibly kindle on Friday with live kits?
I've read that it is possible for a rabbit to get pregnant twice, since they have the two horns. She was only exposed the one time, so any kits would be the same stage of development. If a doe miscarries is it safe to assume she's lost them all and just re-breed? or is it better to wait and assume there could still be kits coming?
I plan to give her a box tonight anyway. We have a cold week ahead, and I'm sure she would appreciate the box regardless. I'd bring her in if she does have babies, but just curious if anyone has lost kits prior to due date, only for live kits to be born on due date?

I have seen kits in different stages of development born at the same time after just one cover.
It happens.
This thread has some of our observations:

Documented proof of double pregnancies in rabbits actually seems to be harder to come by.
I do know the pregnancies in separate uterine horns thing is a myth. A rabbit carries a normal pregnancy in both horns of her uterus. Which makes perfect sense when you think about it. The kits are lined up along either side of her abdomen. I've observed this from autopsy of rabbits that had been covered just once.

So, it is possible that your doe lost them all, but it's also possible she has kits still developing inside. I've seen numerous breeders mention live kits being born a few days after miscarried kits...Or undeveloped kits being born a few days after healthy ones.

Yes it's possible to have a live kit(s) after miscarriage, and what Zass said
about double pregnancy is correct.
