should you keep a pregnant doe or one that has already had her kits separate from other does? Will there be a problem with the other rabbit hurting the kits?
Some does will attack others litters -- jealous, maybe -- and they can and will hurt them if allowed.
We got very lucky with our two moms-with-other-does. With the one pair, the one not bred turned into sort of a grandma-type bunny with her daughter's litter.
The other time, the one (little black bun) had grown up with the other (huge white bun), and when the big one had a litter, the little one became their overprotective aunt who wouldn't let us touch the babies without letting us know she disapproved.
You can try to keep them together, or you could just not risk it. We just didn't have cage space to separate ours with. I wouldn't judge by previous behavior, rabbits will change attitudes faster than you can say "jackelope"!
In colony situations, does will frequently have litters with other does around and have no problems. Occasionally, though, another doe will attack the kits.
Sharing a cage is a bit different. Much smaller space which each considers hers, no room for them to really get away from each other. In that case, it really depends... even more than in a colony.
Galadriel's right. We've been very fortunate with the two-doe cages we've had.
