I've been waiting, waiting, waiting to have a mamma have wire-babies, but until now they've all been born in the nest with fluff to crawl into. Sometime between noon and now, Moo had 1 kit on the wire. There was very little blood, almost couldn't spot it, and the kit was nice and clean, just dead. Moo is still big and fat and acting normal. What are the odd she'll still kindle a live litter, do you think?
This is her 2nd litter. The 1st, she had them on on time in the nest. 3 kits were in the hollow she'd built, and 1 was stretched and dead.
Wire kit's been warmed up, but it's still pretty dead.

Looks pretty normal to me, just a bit glossy?
[ vvv hey look, dead pinkie vvv ]

She may very well have more. Sometimes a doe will get caught by surprise and will kindle one or two on the wire and then move to the nest box to kindle the rest.

I agree, that kit looks normal to me.

Moo's still lazing about. She's determined to do this while I'm asleep, I bet...sooner or later... lol

Is that about right for size from this doe? It may have been stuck and she will kindle more later.

It was just slightly smaller than the usual 31-day babies.

Yeahh, I think this litter's just a flop. XD She had 2 more on the wire this morning. I do hope she's all right though. Just seems odd to me that she'd build her nest every day of the week, then have a screw-up.<br /><br />__________ Tue Mar 12, 2013 10:07 am __________<br /><br />'Kay, I was there this time. I was petting her when she stuck her tail up and I saw this puff of steam. I went around to the back of the cage, and sure enough, 5th kit was born dead. :( So she's not neglecting them or anything, I think she just doesn't wanna have dead kits in her nest. And then right ontop of the dead kit came...a tinier off-colored dead kit in a sack. Moo didn't even bother touching it.
