I give 1/2 tums a.m. and p.m. to my does before kindling, but I'm curious from those with more experience than I, how beneficial is this? Is it necessary for all does, and how often to give it? Should I be giving it after kindling?

I would be concerned about the other ingredients in Tums. I put a tablespoon or two of calcium drench (for goats) into my kindling/nursing does' water bottles each day until they wean their kits. Almost learned that one the hard way, too.

TUMS are mainly calcium plus flavourings, at least here in Canada, but you should likely check the label. Lots of people have used them as an emergency measure for a doe in a difficult labour. I've never used them myself but I once read a first-hand account over on HT of how a TUMS turned around a labour going wrong and probably saved the doe and litter.
