Are the organs good for you to eat? I've been feeding them to my cats... but I wonder if we should be eating them... I just was never fed kidney before...

Yes, liver, heart and kidneys are all fine and delicious. Your kitties will, of course, enjoy them... but it is a shame to feed them the best parts. Hearts are a bit chewy although they have excellent flavour... but the liver and kidneys are tender and scrumptious. Even if you don't like liver and kidneys from other animals, do give it a try from rabbits. There is no comparison!

Wow! I sure do learn something everytime I check into Rabbittalk!! Hmmmm... well, we'll give it a try. I am a little squeamish about the kidneys not sure why!

The cats DO love them!

Do you feed the lungs to your cats/dogs? Are they nutritious?

You can feed the lungs to your dogs or cats. I don't have a dog and my cat, Marilla, is fussy, so I don't bother. You could also feed that kind of thing to chickens.

No need to be squeamish about the kidneys. I just cut them in half and saute them with the sliced liver in butter. Add salt and pepper to taste. Yum! Don't overcook them... just until done. Overcooking will damage the delicate flavour. (My mom used to cook beef liver until it was like leather... No wonder I hated liver as a child.)

Mmmm.

We lightly coat them in flour with some salt and pepper added to it, then lightly sate in butter. I usually leave that delicious kidney fat attached to the kidneys and cook it all up together. I read somewhere that fat is considered a delicacy, and I can see why. DELICIOUS!

Makes me wonder if you can eat rabbit stomach like cow stomach? Probably not...but I'm curious now. :?

In this house tripe is dog food. Truly, if you can eat one part of an animal you can eat all of it with the possible exception of the gall bladder. In my old Five Roses cookbook there are recipes for every organ including brains and the thymus. When home butchering was all there was the intestines were used as sausage casing. Blood pudding is still a popular dish in Europe. It's only since we've become distanced from our food that only eating muscle meat has become the norm.

All innards/unwanted parts go to the birds and the lgd, they love them, I don't.
