Here's a few of the American Chinchilla bunnies we have. Some were out of the hidey hole with mama. I feel like Rabbitosis is inevitable at this point.

Rabbitosis seems to strike at this age- I believe young bunnies shed the virus in large amounts at this time. Although it is nearly impossible to do so, if you can avoid all visual and tactile contact until they are approaching 10-12 weeks, you may avoid an acute infection of RR.

P.S. Good luck with that!

I'm telling myself that it's okay for me to cuddle these guys. I'm considering keeping a few does for a colony set up. Maybe a buck as back up. I have to cuddle to find out who I like the best, right?

Oh dear- never mind about avoiding contact. It has happened already.

Yes- if you are keeping any, you must cuddle them so you have insanely friendly breeder rabbits. It is the only way to go. Less stressful for the meat ones too when the day comes to ride the bus to camp.

Those are cute little buns you have there... You could rename this forum Rabbitosis Talk cause we all have it.

Au contraire! MaggieJ claims immunity to Rabbitosis in all of its many forms.

Yeah, and I'm beginning to wonder what's wrong with me.

Well, I never was one to be in the mainstream of things. I look at all the cute bunny pictures and I enjoy them, but as to wanting more rabbits or different breeds... I'm quite content with my small number of meat mutts. I know it's weird.

Well, someone has to be the voice of reason. I thought I was immune to the "other lesser breeds" with my magnificent Rex, but no... sigh.

hahaha... maybe one day people will gather to study rabbitosis and they will go to maggiej to use her natural immunity to find a cure... ;)
