During the last week or so I've noticed Jane is getting a spot on her back. Is this normal for castors to get spots like this ? Or does this mean she is a broken ? Or is this the just the start of adult fur coming in and she will be this (spot) color all over her body eventually ?

Is Jane still a A_B_C_D_E_ ???

Thanks.

Castors go through all sorts of changes, which is why so many show people won't breed the color. Mine start out very gray on the sides, I have a few that look like the chestnuts from other breeds. I know those ones won't turn out well. There is a time when the rings can come in backwards, then the rabbit can be uneven across the body. My buck was and I nearly culled him for it. They can have nearly no black, and then they can have a heavy black across their entire body. I have to keep a castor for at least 6 mos, most till senior prime, to know if the color is going to be right. .
