Well, found the runaway rabbit when I was feeding the colony buns. He heard the pellets and came flying over. Couldn't catch him, too hot to bother. So I guess he will 'free range' until I see he is fat enough to catch and eat. His snotty nose went away a day later after I isolated him, so not too sure what the heck it was. :/
But not keeping him for anything but food.

He can't choose a spot to munch. Just chews some here, runs over there, chew some more and off to greener pastures again!

Every Rabbit owner/breeder should have a live trap in their arsenal
I have at one time or another caught Two escapees in
the live trap at the same time. Bait it with a tuna can
full of rabbit feed at the back of the trap.
It may take a day or two but it never fails.
Ottersatin. :eek:ldtimer:

I just send the dogs out, with a wanted poster--dead or alive. So far, they have brought back the bunnies alive.

I have a trap, I have little interest in catching it until it starts doing damage or is fat enough to be worth my effort.

You need our German shorthair pointer dog, Sam, to come help you out. He is the best rabbit catcher. I can get him to 'work' a rabbit onto a corner and hold it on point until I catch it. He doesn't want to bite the rabbit, just point it. Good dog!

Sam always lets me know when a bun is on the run. They do always head back to the rabbtry when loose, where we can corner and catch 'em.

I found out where he hides during the day! Every evening he hops out to eat and check things out and I have no idea where the heck he stays! But today I glanced under the propane tank, where chickens love to hide out and such. And there he was, he had scratched out all the grass in a 2ft circle and was laying calmly in the center. I can see him from the kitchen window, weeds are in the way, but I see an ear. Last night I was able to scoop him up and he is heavier than he was before.
I'll get a pic of him under there later in the day.

I had one out a couple weeks ago and figured I'd get it when he was big enough to butcher. But ended up catching him with a fish net.

1st is the foxed drake, birds don't mind the running rabbit.
Bun didn't care about me taking pics, even touched his toes and he just stretched out more and kept chilling.

If he needs a midnight snack, he has lambsquarters right outside his door!

Yep, he's in there all day until it starts getting cool, then he comes out to nibble one bit of plant here then another there and so on and so forth until it's nap time again. :/ So picky...lol.
