So, I go out to feed the rabbits and this one Jr. doe I have been holding for a friend is out of her cage, in the shed, running around in the bunny berries that have bounced out onto the floor! I put her back....the next day I go out and am greeted by this....

Who me? I have NO clue how that door got opened!

The next day.....

Yeah, I have since fixed HER wagon....but isn't she a hoot?

LOL! She tried to remove her feeder first, it looks like...

"Hmm... I used to be able to fit through that space. I guess going incognito is out- I'll have to use the door after all."

Had a Standard Chinchilla doe who kept opening up her door, and it had double latches top and bottom. Problem was she wouldn't get out but her poor babies would fall out on their heads-

Golf balls
Small Blocks of wood
I put the hay on the roof of the cage so they have to work to get at it.
Companion rabbit.
Tin cups they can rattle the bars with-it's true, one of does loves to carry around a little feeding cup and make noise with it.
They also get to run about in a 10x10 bunny 'play pen' a couple times a week.

I am actually trying to breed out 'playfulness' in my meat line so I won't feel guilty about keeping them in 3 x 2 cages.
Any rabbit with personality or cleverness goes into the pot and is not used as a replacement.

:rotfl:
I have had that happen before. I have no idea how they do it! Rabbit smarter than its person in my case!

Reminds me of our first litter, after we moved to my uncle's, but before we had a rabbitry built. Went out one morning, and one of the bunlets (the most precocious one) was romping around the potted plants, having a blast!

In the open door, several more kits were leaning out, trying to get up the courage to take the drop themselves. The door must not have been open too long, or I'm sure I would have had all 8 and their mom to round up! :p

My Chin loves it when I leave her door open. She doesn't usually like me, but when I open her door while feeding and watering everyone, she will hop to the door and let me pet her. =)
But, she has jumped that height before, she loves escaping, so I don't leave it open after I'm done with the rounds.
She also rips her feeder out when she eats all the food and she tosses her water bowl around, sometimes while it's still full. I just make a face at her and fix them, she never plays with toys, the things she should not play with are just far more alluring, just like a kid, anything off limits is more fun.

I have does that stack their crocks inside each other. Then I also have some that stack their crocks inside each other, inside the nestbox. hmmm

I have a doe that puts a pine cone in her food dish every time it gets empty. I guess that's her way of reminding me she is out of food.

Yep, between the satin and satinX does, the Silver Fox trio, the English Angora pair, and the 2 growout bucklings, feeding time can get a bit noisy as they all take to rattling their crocks, flipping them, and the pinecone in the empty food or water crock too :mbounce:

And then, there is the door rattling as I have a few that have taken to shaking the door with their teeth ... will need to find something to break them of that before someone gets their teeth out of line :(

This thread is hilarious.

One buck has had no door for months. I just got tired of trying to keep it closed. He is the first cage I reach, and he greets me with a bunny kiss every morning.

AnnClaire what about a brief shot of compressed air out of a can to the face? That would be a pretty strong deterrant yet not harmful. Just a thought.

Thanks Jared, I will try that! Tapping their nose and saying No hasn't worked at all ... I just get a look and they move over and start again :D
