We are at day 34 and no kits. Is there still any hope? The doe was transported at a couple days pregnant and I don't know if that could have disrupted her pregnancy. I haven't noticed any nesting/haystaches although she does happily go into her cool over the door nest box.

I have a buck that is just turned 6 months and a friend wiling to help breed her tomorrow (Friday, day 35). I'm inexperienced and don't know how to help a first time buck… so would definitely want help. however I'm willing to postpone if it would be harmful to the doe if she is pregnant or the young buck if he's too young.

Thoughts?

Most does kindle at day 30 or 31, but some do go longer. I think the record here at RT is day 42, but I'm not positive on that one.

At this stage in pregnancy you should definitely be able to feel the kits within her, although I have had a doe or two trick me even at that late stage.

If you want, go ahead and rebreed her. It wont cause problems if she is pregnant. But! DO NOT remove her nestbox until about day 40 just to be safe.

In most mammals the progesterone secreted during gestation inhibits oestrus and the pregnant female refuses to mate, but a pregnant doe may accept mating throughout the gestation period. Indeed, in the second half of pregnancy this is the most common behaviour (Figure 10).

A breeder cannot therefore use the sexual behaviour of does as an indication of pregnancy. Mating occurring during gestation has no dire consequences for the embryos. Unlike the phenomenon observed in the female hare, superfoetation (two simultaneous pregnancies at two different stages of development) never occurs in rabbits.

One thing to keep in mind if you plan to rebreed now- the heat. Not sure how hot is up there but the buck could be sterile at this time of year, and she may not get pregnant.

Most people rebreed at about day 35 but some have gone to day 40 and possibly longer. Even if she goes ahead and let's the buck breed don't remove the box. Some does will allow breeding despite being pregnant.

You can have litters after day 34. I'm not sure what the odds are but they are likely very small. I've never had a doe kindle past day 31. I may have had one kindle on day 32 but don't recall one.

young buck.. I"d breed her.
Worst that happens is in a couple of days you get a litter of kits.

I'd stand and watch her a spell though....see if you notice any baby movement in her belly, or give her belly a good feel up. If there's kits you should be able to feel them, though like MSD.. I"ve been fooled in the past as well.

I had a doe kindle on day 41 with two of seven alive; someone else had a doe kindle on day 42 with all alive.

I'd rebreed her and hope that if she is pregnant, that gets things going. Maybe give her some fruity Tums and some of the herbs that help with kindling (they're in the Natural Feeding forum, I think). Don't give lavender unless she's having a kindling emergency, and you just need to get the kits out dead or alive.

We will rebreed her today. I don't get any feeling she's pregnant, I've felt around her belly and got nothing even though I don't know what I'm feeling for I'd THINK that at this point there would be SOMETHING.

Pretty bummed at this point! But what can you do. :)

I know the feeling!! I went through this with my two girls twice before they actually were pregnant. You are right, if she was pregnant you should feel something by this point. For me, once they actually were pregnant and I palpated them it was a major "ah-HA!" moment! That's what it suppose to feel like! ;) Just keep trying! They and you will get it :D

What I did to get used to palpating was I would palpate my buck first. Once I was used to what an empty tummy felt like I would go to the doe and palpate her. That way there if she was pregnant I would feel it, cause it would be something "different" then my bucks empty tummy.

Well we bred her. He is a first timer…. so no falling off yet. He worked hard and was pretty tired so will try again tomorrow. Was told to lift her tail (how ???) to help him out. So that'll be tomorrow's project.

Mama was receptive but apparently that means nothing. She's back w/her nest box just in case but I felt NADA in her belly even after a serious grope and some nail trimming.
