Hi there
After the painful loss of my beloved black Rex Lucas to pasturella recently, I decided to make the journey to the pet store once again. I was hoping to get another Rex as Lucas was the most loving rabbit I could ever wish for. However no rex's were available and I saw this little fella. The pet store didn't know his breed (???) and just said he was a cross. I was hoping someone could help me distinguish what his breed is, he definitely has some traits of the Belgium hare.

I have posted some photos hopefully someone can help. He is so loving and sweet I definitely made a good choice anyway!

That's just a tort mix breed. As long as he's sweet, just enjoy him as a pet! If you ever want to know the true breed of a rabbit, purchase from a reputable breeder and not a pet store since they usually just are supplied from people having accidental litters or a person who sells them whole sale. From my experience with my BF working in a petstore as a reptile manager, they are just supplied from animal wholesaler where usually they have enteritis,pasturella,etc.... Many get sick in the store or when they go to their pet homes shortly afterwards. Many died just because they were normally too young but people asked for "dwarfs" and 4-5 week olds met the bill. Since he is sweet, I feel yours was probably raised in a good home since many of the rabbits from wholesalers are skittish and scared because they haven't been handled until the day they were transported to the store.

Hi Pinkjojo!

:welcomewagon:

What a cute rabbit!

I'm glad you found a sweet bunny to fill the void left by your beloved Rex. :)

Welcome :)
If he's sweet he's almost certainly not a Belgian Hare. Everything I've heard about them from breeders says they have, umm, interesting temperaments. They are not a rabbit you'll find outside a breeders barn.

I think he's a cute little mix though, enjoy him :)
