How long can the ears be in jersey wooly rabbits? I may have found a a trio but want to be sure on ear length.

Also if the bunny tends to have a slighly narrow for the breed face how bad would that hurt me in show if the rest of the body seems to be good?

Does anyone have the standard of perfection and willing to share it? or know where I can find a copy of it online just to get an idea of what I am looking for?

All three bunnies are really sweet but I hate to spend this much money and find out I cant show them.

How old are these? The juniors ears grow before their body when thy are going through their uglies they look pretty out of balance. Earsgcannot be longer than 3" but judges prefer 2.5. I would ask the breeder to measure the ears for you.

The two smoked pearl have three inch ears. :'(
The black has 2.5 inch ears.
They are all juniors.
Could I use the black to fix the long ears from the other two? And how many points are put on ears? And are two long of ears a dq?

__________ Tue Sep 04, 2012 1:49 pm __________

Nope just a COD on a few colors. But limited info

I would get the black and look elsewhere for others. Their ears pretty much stop growing at that age.

Wow! Those are some long ears. I'm noticing in the picture that the first rabbit's feet are sticking out. She also looks a bit over posed, but she could be pinched. I can't say I'm really crazy about this trio overall.

The black looks like the best one out of the three.

When Lindsey and I were at the show this weekend the judges were looking for nice curvature to the skull, a dense coat, and a nice round body. Rabbits that were large/big ears/not proportioned were usually at the bottom of the class. I think he also called someone out on wool being on the feet. It shouldn't be there....assuming i heard him correctly.

Tip is to look at multiple rabbits from different breeders :) Visit a show and ask a judge for their opinion when they have free time. It cost nothing to ask. You want to get the best for your money (I know I do....college student!)

The problem is I am a mom of 4 boys and I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Shows are a minimum of 2.5 hours away and only a few that are that close. I like the black and so will probably be getting her. The smoke pearls have some big ears and narrow heads so I am definitely not getting them now that I have found a copy of the Standard of Perfection. It is $50 each or $125 for the trio.
This site gives the standard:

I may do that then. What do you think of the Otter pair? from what you can see. I am tossed between the pointed buck and black doe or the otter pair. The smoke pearl are out because that head and ears do not work for me.

I am hoping to get a pair from her as she lives right in an area where I will be traveling thru when I go to get my magpies from Ladysown.

__________ Tue Sep 04, 2012 4:33 pm __________

Next question...... Is $200 to much for the black doe and the pair of otters pictured above?

I am also looking into a possible trio of pointed Jersey Woolys.

That price is pretty much average for woolies. Just make sure you don't breed the pointed and otters together. You could get pointed otters. Otter and black go together and pointed and black go together as well. Not sure i like the ears on those otters, they are pretty long and skinny. Judges like short, wide, thick, open ears. Look at the photos in my jersey wooly trio thread, all three have nice ears , the blacks are too long but still within the 3 inches that they allow.

Congrats on desiding to get JWs, you will love having them.
Now you are up to the hard part of picking them out.
Remember not only to look at the rabbit's being offered, but to also look at their pedigrees (blood lines).
It should give you a lil insite into what you are getting.

In the first group of pictures you posted the lil black girl is cute, counting on her still growing she should be a good starter for your line.

The Sr. buck in the second group of pictures is very nice & I would get him.

The lil Otter doe is also cute ... but I would ask for another picture of her standing, her rear foot looks like it may be crooked (could just be picture angle).

The male Otter's ears look very long, so I wouldn't get him.

These are just my opinions & I am not an expert.

my site a work in progress http://dreamerz-lair.webs.com/

Yeah I really like the two of them but this is what she said about the buck......

Backwood'd double shot is a great rabbit. He's about 4 years old. He has everything going for him other then he throws martinized pointed whites which are not showable. And if you breed him to a black that hides otters he will throw otters. So he's and interesting bunny. He's not really a show buck.

What was said about the first three........

Trickser is a smoke pearl Jr. Buck. He has really nice shoulders, depth of body, and hindquarters. The one thing I fault him on is his head and ears. His ears are 3 inches long with is good under the standard. His head is just too narrow for my liking. Once he gets his wool cap in his ears may look not as long. I'm asking $50 for him.

Delilah is Trickser's sister. She is a smoke pearl Jr. Doe. I like her better then her brother because she is shorter. Not sure if she is going to be a brood doe at this time or not. She has really nice shoulders, depth of body, and hindquarters. I also fault her on her head and ears. To narrow of a head. Her ears are also 3 inches which is within standard. I'm asking $50 for her.

KK is a Black Jr. Doe. She is out of two shadeds. So she would be breedable to the Trickser. I really like this doe. She has the head and ear. The hindquarters and depth of body. If I had to fault her on something it would have to be her shoulders. Wish they were a little wider to match her hindquarters. That is getting nick picky. I'm asking $50 for her also.

Otter pair..............
The otters would be easier to work with. The otter buck I really like. He has been shown and has done well. He has great shoulders, depth of body and hindquarters. I wish he was a little more full at the table.
The otter doe I really like a lot! I was going to keep her but her sister is a little wider. And that's getting really knit picky. She has the shoulders, depth of body, and hindquarters. She's super short. Love her! She is going to make a great show doe.
The black doe would be a great match with these two rabbits.
For the otter trio I'm asking $200. They are a little better quality then the shadeds and out of best in show lines.

Have you talked to any other breeders about getting Woolys ?
You may be able to find some that fit your needs better from another breeder, there are quite a few listed through the Wooly club & the ARBA sites.

The specialty show is coming at the end of the month and we will not be able to make it. That may be why the Jersey Woolys in Michigan seem to be limited at this time. I suppose I will just have to wait for a bit and keep an eye out. I have looked at the other sites I have come across and not finding what I want.
Just gotta keep looking.

Are you looking for certain colors?

__________ Tue Sep 04, 2012 8:49 pm __________

I think that little black doe would be a good start. Get her, get to know the breed, show her and then find a buck later.
