Hello, my friend has a pet buck rabbit, she was told it was a Rex. He's on the larger size, waiting on her to tell me his weight. I'm guessing a cross with a lop, but other than that, no idea..
You guys know what he could be?

She says he freaks when being held, so not sure on weight, but 6-8lbs or so is her guess. He is 16-18in from nose to tail when sitting like he is in the pics.

His coat is very sleek for him to be a mini lop, at least based on google pictures of them.
But any ideas are better than 'he's a black rabbit', =D

You'd be suprise :) I have a doe with awesome sliky, dense fur and she is a seal. Fur can vary with the Mini Lops

__________ Thu May 10, 2012 8:28 pm __________

Surprised*

It looks like a mini lop to me. And peach is right they can get a sleek coat to them..just depends on the lines.

I would guess maybe a NZ cross but deffinatly had a mini lop parent. I've seen 7 lb mini lops but they were 4+ years old and this little guy deffinatly looks young.

Has she given him a good romp? I think I see some definite Loop influence... the characteristic "Looping Lope" will confirm my suspicions!

How does that look like, the looping lope??
Anyone have a video of a regular rabbit and then a lop moving like that to tell the difference?
Gave her the link to the thread and that's something we both don't understand.

It's a joke, chickies. There was an ad on CL for a "Holland Loop", and we all ran with it. According to the made up standard, they have legs that are shorter on one side, causing them to run in circles.

I agree with satins, I see some satin or NZ. It looks like he has that tight, hard coat like a satin or NZ would. I also think your freind might be over estimating his weight a little judging by the bars on his cage. My pure mini lop buck only weighs 5.75 and he's quite a bit bigger than that little guy.

I would say Loop... but only half Loop.( Does he run in large circles or tiny tiny circles, because a half Loop would only have ONE short leg...) :pancake: :pancake: :pancake:

He could very well be half Mini Rex or Rex. However he is what should be labeled Pet Store/Backyard Breed. In other words a complete mutt. Why even worry about it?
