I think it was Dood who posted pictures of his external nest boxes, and I like the idea so much I will try to make one. Since I won't have to worry about taking up space in the cage or fitting it through the door, I am wondering...what are the ideal dimensions for a 10 pound doe? I mean I know what the commercial rabbit nest boxes are but are they a little small? Too big? Not long enough? I don't want it to be too small (smushed kits are not on my list of "good") but I also don't want it to be too big (cold kits in a huge box, also not good).

Also I know there were L-hooks on the picture that was shown...I am worried the box won't stay on. Any other ideas about attaching it to the cage?

If this works well for the Champagnes, I'll for sure make wee boxes for my future Mini Rex does too. ;)

IDEAL is 2" larger than the doe on all four sides...so each doe has a custom sized box.

Excellent! Making them myself I can do that. :) Thanks! :)

One more question. I worry about kits being dragged out of the box...if I made the entrance to the nest box round (like...with my jig-saw) would it be more likely for a nursing kit to be "scraped off" that way?
