ID This female?

Hello all,

My name is Marlom. I am new to this Rabbit Talk website. I am wondering if anyone can assist me in identifying this female momma for me. I recently had her kits from a NZ white/ California Rex mix. The 5 kits are doing fine and its the first time I breed her. Anyway. Any info would be much appreciated.

she looks like a Blanc de Hotot. But she could be a mix breed that is a Charlie broken pattern. It's hard to tell. how big is she?

She has hotot genes to get the eye circles. If she's a bigger size (9lb range) blanc de hotot, which is actually a rare breed in most areas, or there is a dwarf hotot that is usually more common but only about 3lbs. The dwarf breeds should have smaller ears than that. She could be a cross but the hotot eye circles are harder to get in crosses than most other coats.

Hotot's are genetically broken and Dutch = EN_ dudu

She could be an extreme Charlie = ENEN

Or she could be a broken Vienna = EN_ vv

Can you please tell us what the kits look like or better yet post pictures ?

While you can just combine the genes that make up a hotot from other breeds the modifiers that really restrict things and leave the eye circles would be missing. Although the doe does have stray marks so not all the correct modifiers or correct dutch gene is there. You should get broken kits no matter what. You'd need a dutch or dutch carrier to test for the dutch genes that are used in hotots. Since you have some kits with very little black the buck may be a broken. That would be hard to see on a himi and impossible on a rew. Himi is the gene that makes the california breed color pattern.

I see at least one kit looks like mum and since I am pretty sure the Californian marked sire does not have any recessive Dutch genes I am leaning towards the doe being a broken Vienna :cheesysmile:
