Our Educational Foundation holds an annual Team Penning event to benefit our local grade school, and it will be held on Saturday and Sunday. It is great fun, and something we always look forward to. My Canadian "Sistah" and her daughters come up from Simi Valley every year to attend it with us. They will be arriving this evening.
Queenpup and Colliepup have volunteered to work in the food booth and the "Kid's Games" booths. The fifth grade class goes on a trip to Montaña de Oro State Park for the "Camp KEEP" (Kern Environmental Education Program) for five days, and some of the families can't afford to pay for it- so the students are required to volunteer to help at these events. My kids are home-schooled so they are going to "donate" their hours to their friends.
Queenpup will also be bringing her horse Candy so she can help settle the cattle between teams, and is hoping to ride on a team herself. She won the title of Team Penning Princess in 2010, so Candy will be decked out in her winning saddle.
Hubs and Firstpup are starting a 6 month tactical rifle course this weekend, so they will be gone Saturday and Sunday. They will learn to adjust their marksmanship for wind velocity and direction, and how to read a compass and topography maps, among other things. They are super excited- and will be attending the classes one day a month for the next five months. Hubs is determined that if Firstpup ever joins the military he will be a sniper, not a foot soldier!
So, y'all be good this weekend, and don't give MaggieJ, Miss M, or my convalescing Sistah OAF any trouble! I'll be back in full force on Monday... and hopefully intermittently in the early morning and evenings. I can already feel the twinges of Rabbittalk withdrawal... I wish I had one of those new-fangled smart phones...
