Hi, i bought a female off of u 8months ago or soo. i was wondering if u could lend me a male lop rabbit for a night or more. ill offer 30 if u can drop him off and pick him up when u are close by.

My initial response
did you buy a harlequin off me or a lop?

her response
i bought a lop earred female from u, white with black markings

My thoughts are...Oh... that lady...the one who gave me a rabbit who her children accidentally bred that she didn't feel comfortable with raising baby rabbits (was her initial story). Later changed when she bought a young loppie from to... did that rabbit I gave you bite you too? I just couldn't keep a rabbit who bites...and she was so sweet before she got bred...

So my most recent response was this
I have to admit, I am not comfortable with the idea of loaning out my buck for an overnight visit.

Most of the time things can go well with a rabbit date, but I also know that things can go horribly wrong as well. Risking a herd sire when I'm not there is simply something I am not comfortable with.

Then of course is the whole issue of .. I don't know your rabbit anymore, I don't know what she may or may not have been exposed to, and those risks are simply not what I want to take on at this time.

I don't know what her response will be...but I'm sticking to my guns on this one.

Lend a rabbit for a NIGHT? God only knows what could happen to your buck in that length of time! Was she proposing to leave them together for that long?

ah..but you see it's the OR MORE part... she only has one cage that I know of....if she has more than that I have to wonder where the cage comes from, what other rabbits there are around and such like. I know she "sits" rabbits and other small critters so it's not not a good feeling for me.

I have bred rabbits for people.. if they bring the doe to me, if I can do a thorough health check first AND ONLY IF I know them and how they care for their critters.

I once sold a pregnant doe to a person who wanted to experience "baby bunny raising". AT this point in time I do not ever want to repeat that experience...

The length of time is the least of your worry. What it will catch or what that lady will do to it would worry me more.

True, but I had visions of the woman putting the two rabbits together for the night, and the buck coming back castrated by the doe (or worse).

With stud dogs, the female goes to the dog. Have had situations where the female is on one side of the US and has to be shipped to the other side of the US. Schedualling it when the female is in heat - Anyway, it is the female that gets shipped, not the male.

I would never do that either. I have sold a doe that I bred for the customer before they took the animal home.
That was with the stipulation that I could NOT guarantee that the doe would conceive and that if she didn't they
could NOT bring her back for a re-breed, they would have to buy a buck for them self.
The story had a happy ending, as far as the customer was concerned.
Doe had kits and she sent me a picture of the "happy family" which I enjoyed seeing :thewave:
