I went out to do chores and There was a bunch of hair in one of the colonies, and one doe was limping. So obviously there was a fight. So I know she is hurt but who was she fighting with. So I start checking the other three girls in the group. I get to the magpie doe in there and she is all bloody and yucky. I pick her up and she is mid labor. I did find one dead kit outside of the nest box. Cute little magpie baby. :( But she is gonna have more. I blocked off her next box area and put some food, water and hay in the space for her. Thought she could use a break from the other does while having her babies.

I am really not liking the colonies for the does. I have not had good luck with it at all. I do like it for grow out pens though.

So yeah I should have a nice nest of babies yet today. I wish she would hurry up. :p

:mbounce: WHOO-HOO! :mbounce:

Sorry about the fight, but finally you are getting some popples!!! :p

:congratulations:

I know. I want to run out and peak again but don't want to upset her. Cut little magpie babies...... And hopefully lots of them.

I'll finally have a reason to break out the DSLR again and get some pics. I usually find it easier to use my phone because the pics are smaller for online use.

__________ Mon Oct 22, 2012 10:35 pm __________

Well this sucks. She had one kit that I found dead and I had to pull one that was stuck and stretched (dead). She has stopped bleeding and stopped contractions. I find it hard to believe she only carried 2 kits but that is all she had. We'll see what morning brings but I don't think there are any more kits to this litter. :'( I am so bummed. There goes litter number 3.

When will litter number 4 come I wonder and what does that have in store for me? I am really starting to get a little disheartened with the whole thing. At least I have hope for my Jersey Woolies. All I need is one live litter to cheer me up. Just one live kit would even work. *sigh*

sorry you are having a hard time. Why did you go to a colony? and if they are fighting, is that the best scenario for them?

They have been in a colony all along and have never fought. Not once. So I actually have to wonder if it was a fight at all or if the doe jumped off the nesting tunnel which she is fond of climbing on and hurt herself. A fight was my initial conclusion for what I had found but after finding the source of the hair and blood I am not so sure there was actually a fight.

So sorry to hear, TM!

Hopefully, the rest of her litter is just delayed... maybe she could have them in the next day or so. I would continue to watch her closely.

ah, thanks for explaining. I do hope you start having more success with them, it is disheartening to have dead litters.

I am watching all of them close.

__________ Tue Oct 23, 2012 8:48 am __________

There are no new kits this morning either. It seams it was a litter of 2. maybe Ill have better luck next time around.

Oh dear, I will keep my fingers crossed for your next litter to be good ones.

My next is due tomorrow and it is my black Jersey Wooly bred to my Himi buck who carries shaded. I sure am hoping for a good healthy litter from her. I am so excited for this litter. I love the woolies.
Told my husband I want to get a couple of angoras as well. So I can spin their wool. :)

YAY! Showoff is on day 35 with no nesting behavior, so it looks like you will get the Wooly popples this round.

:congratulations:

I have a feeling we are going to be inundated with popple pics from you soon! :p

I sure hope so. It is nerve wracking waiting here for it to happen though. I mean she is in the living room so I hear every bit of scratching and everything. lol

A hurt leg tells me that she fell or jumped up on the cage wall and got caught or something. I have had my does get injured legs, its not from fighting. Fighting means fur pulls and bite marks and scratches. Bummer about your babies! I am so greatful my American Blues have taken to colony lifestyle without a hitch and raised many big fat litters. Is the type of rabbit you are raising prone to have trouble birthing or having big litters? Maybe its not the colony set up but the individual...
