Got the hutch pretty much finished other than the pans we need. Picked up two two hole carriers so we can go get some rabbits pretty soon.
Hubby has water and electric run out there. Need a freezer for the garage for frozen water bottles too.
He is really looking forward to getting these rabbits. Glad I found something he can get into with me.

Do you have drop pans under the cages? Or a gutter system? Looks like they're flat on the shelf?

Going to be drop pans. They are sitting on wire. I think we will have room for three smaller cages under these. That's the plan anyhow.
These top cages are thirty square. The second row should hold 3 24 by 30s.

As someone who did pans this winter, I would recommend going for the slant boards. I like the pans, but if I had my druthers, I'd go back and do slant boards with a gutter.

I'm thinking it makes a big difference depending on how many rabbits you have.
If it's just a 'handful' of rabbits, I like the drop pans better. They're quick and easy to pull and dump as needed and there's very little odor.

If it's a lot of rabbits, I can see how the drop pan work would become impractical and a person would pretty much NEED to go with a slant/gutter system. I'm hoping to get a slant/gutter system for my outdoor growout pen (if I ever manage to get it over here), but I've heard that the slant/gutter system causes more 'smell' and really needs to be in an area where you can spray it down easily.

Drop pans work better for an indoors setup, like mine. :)

well, I mentioned that my husband was putting a tarp over the whole set up for extra shade. Its under a huge apple tree anyhow and has a whole building behind it. Plus the whole thing weighs like three hundred pounds.
When I mentioned this to the lady I am getting the rabbits from (I hope) she was like. They are not going to be in a building? I sent her photos of the set up. Gads, I hope she thinks this set up is good enough. Does anybody here think this is not a good set up? I am concerned she may not approve for some reason. Its way nicer than some I have seen but these are pretty nice rabbits. She never ever asked me what my set up was before we talked price and such.
Now I am kicking myself for even mentioning the whole tarp thing.
Just nerves I guess. We are planning on picking them up next Sunday.

Hello Blue Haven,
[she was like. They are not going to be in a building?]
She has got to be Joking! There is absolutely nothing WRONG
with Rabbits being in a Building. In fact they would probably be
Much safer in the confines of some sort of solid structure.
You want to protect your Rabbits from:
The elements of weather, Other animals that might want to make them into a tasty treat,
and peering prying persons that might have larceny on their mind!
As long as you allow for proper ventilation an enclosure is your best bet.
As always, JMPO.
Ottersatin. :eek:ldtimer:

I think the breeder was worried that the rabbits were actually going to be outside.... which is an excellent place for rabbits to be. Obviously either indoors or outdoors both have to be done with ventilation and proper shelter from elements. Nothing wrong with either when done well. Your set-up looks fine. Place is out of the sun and away from too much wind...

Well, if the storm we just got is any indication that hutch is not going anywhere unless we get a tornado.
Checked and its dry as a bone.
Wow, is Indiana getting hammered! two more waves of huge and dangerous storms to go. So many people flooded out. I hope all of our bunny friends are all right.
